4 Wheelchair Accessories You Should Consider if Paralyzed

Wheelchair users are a huge demographic (at least 1.7 million Americans), and growing at a rapid pace. Which means there are plenty of shysters out there trying to peddle some useless product to wheelchair users for a quick buck. We’re going to avoid those types of products, and instead present you with four wheelchair accessories you should consider:

A backpack or tote bag

There are several models of backpacks that fit directly over the back of a wheelchair, which can be incredibly handy if you’re going to be out for a while. These bags range from the cheap and simplistic to the large and expensive. You can see a good example of the variety here.

Gloves

I don’t know how tough and calloused your hands are, but they can certainly take a beating after hours of wheelchair use. If you want to protect your hands and increase comfort, you should consider a nice pair of padded gloves.

Cushions

There are probably more wheelchair cushion varieties than there are actual wheelchairs, and they come in all shapes and sizes. You can get small, thin cushions that provide a little comfort, or fancy electronic cushions that rely on different levels of air to adjust the level of support.

A cup holder

When you’re in a wheelchair, you have to think about the difficulty of certain activities. For instance, if you want to go get a drink, you might have to maneuver through your kitchen, get a glass, etc. Why not take the hassle out of it with a cup holder? That way, you can always carry a drink or bottle of water with you. And if you’re a wine drinker, you can even find a special wheelchair cup holder for your wine glass, too.
